I think before my two semester stint abroad in the UK, I was stuck in a fashion rut of ironic tees, hoodies, and jeans. With a curvy body type like mine, it was hard enough to learn how to dress myself as a teen, let alone master a signature style. In college I at least felt confident in what I was wearing, even if it wasn’t particularly adventurous. I remember I bought a vintage 1940’s houndstooth coat shortly before my trip to England, and it was probably one of the first truly unique fashion choices I ever made. I knew that fashion abroad was an entirely different game, and I wanted to feel somewhat prepared. When I returned so many months later, armed with the knowledge of all things anglophile, I definitely made some changes to my personal style. It was hard to transition back from a place where fashion experimentalism is the norm, but here at the ModCloth office, I can once again be daring with my style selections! Shapely chicks like me often have a very limited selection when it comes to the latest trends, but here’s a big tip: don’t stress yourself out by committing to a certain size. Nothing sucks the life out of me more than trying on clothes at the mall, but when you’re shopping online, it’s a totally different game. For starters you’re relaxed, you’re not trapped under florescent lights, and you’re wearing something comfy. So take your measurements, and take some chances.
For my outfit of the week, I started with the Chic on a Leash Dress, which I love for its sublime silhouette, silky construction, and Scottish terrier print! I layered it with the Spoken Word Jacket for a bit of ruffle-y, Neo-Victorian edge. Check out the pop of its sumptuous plaid lining. You can’t see him in this picture, but I added our adorable, petite Fifi La Pin to the yoke of the jacket for a touch of Alice in Wonderland whimsy. I finished the look off with the Chic Chevron Tights, and the Sweet Pota-toe Heels, piled on the pearls with our What a Pearl Wants Necklace, and BAM. I’m ready to ride the Tube in style.
